so only one post I’m afraid this week, plus it’s my birthday today so I just wanted to have a chilled out week, I did do a poll on Twitter and asked what post you would like to see next and this Kylie post won so I shall get straight into it.
So some of you might know I managed to order the Kylie cosmetics birthday bundle. You should probably all know by now I’m a sucker for Kylie cosmetics, I don’t know why, but when I saw this birthday collection on kylie’s snapchat I really wanted to get my hands on something. I originally wanted the mini lip kits and the crème shadows, But like everyone knows getting hold of kylie’s products is a nightmare so I knew I had to be quick.
I decided to go for the bundle as it was just easier to order, rather than adding it all separately, kylie’s website is a bit of joke as you get put in a holding zone and by the time the site works everything is sold out. Luckily I managed to order this straight away and it actually sold out in 1 minute which is crazy! It cost £195 which is ridiculous I know but I got sucked into the hype, pretty packaging and the fact it was limited edition.
Read on for my review and if I think this was worth the $$$…….
It got dispatched really quickly but did get stuck in customs, this is a regular thing with Kylie cosmetics now, I got a £37 custom charge which I wasnt happy about at all. This is definitely the last time I order, I say this a lot but I mean it now, the fees are just ridiculous and it’s not even worth it anymore. I feel like I’m just buying for the name and pretty packaging! yes I do love the lip kits which I’m gutted about as I would love to order more if she ever launched new shades but with the shipping and custom fees its just getting to pricey.
The bundle did come in this big box with Kylie in gold this time so she changed the boxes for this birthday collection, as I got the bundle it came in a big dust bag and all the products were in the makeup bad, so it was packaged nicely.
It also came with this card, Kylie often has a card with her lip kits and glosses and this is the birthday edition card.
The birthday products and what was included in the bundle
- Kyliner in Bronze $38
- lip kit in leo $30
- metallic lipstick in Lord $19
- Gloss in poppin $16
- crème shadows in Copper & rose gold $20 each
- Makeup bag $42
- mini matte set $36
- the complete bundle $195
Now I’m going to be totally honest, as aren’t I always, but no way are these products worth the price tag. Kylie is clever and because of her name can get away with charging these prices, I mean even when I knew Kylie was bringing out her own cosmetic line no way did I think it was going to be cheap, but we all know the similarity with her products and colourpop! and colourpop only charge under $10!! for liquid lipstick, eyeshadows etc
I think the price tag for these was a little more as its limited edition gold packaging which is one of the reasons I wanted it (obv I love my gold) and also the fact all products are infused with real gold! But she’s charging like designer prices I mean $42 for a makeup bag that probably cost under $5 to make.
But I’m going to run though all the products, what I think of them and if they are worth it.
mini matte set
This is one of my favourite products out of the bundle and probably the most popular that everyone wanted, I mean they are mini so really cute, perfect for on the go and to put in your handbag. And the gold packaging makes them look even nicer!! But these are very mini, they’re like the size or my little finger and that’s why I’ve seen a few people annoyed about this set, I think everyone thought they were going to be bigger for the price. I mean I think she should have charged anywhere from $25-32 for these as I doubt you will get many uses out of these but it’s a good way to try some of the shades. I wouldn’t be surprised if she makes something like this permanent or does a holiday collection with these.
Creme shadows in rose gold and copper
These are also my favourite, I do love my gold and rose gold so I had to have these, they are very creamy and pigmented, copper is slightly orange for my taste but I can make it work. They apply as a cream and dry pretty quickly so you have to work quick with these. They also don’t budge and have really good staying power, I would love to see her make more shades but again is $20 worth it? Personally for Kylie cosmetics and her name I would say yes, it’s a really nice product, and if these were tarte cosmetics, too faced etc they probably would charge around the shame price but I’m just putting it out there that I wouldn’t be surprised if Colourpop come out with these soon and I bet they will be exactly the same and only priced at $8 so do you so see where I’m going with this, product is good and packaging is nice but Is it totally unique formula I don’t think so.
Lip kit in Leo
This is one of the products I’m disappointed with, it’s so patchy and streaky. A few people have said Kourt k is like this, so it seems to be the darker colours, she really needs to work more on her formula. This isn’t build able either as it goes so dry and crumbly. So I think I’m going to sell this, I haven’t used this one only the Leo in the mini set. As you can www from the swatch it’s pretty streaky.
This is another product I’m going to sell just because of the colour, if she had brought out a matte black liner it would have been perfect, this colour isn’t one I will wear everyday and I think it’s just pointless keeping just for the packaging, I love all the gold detail, I wish all her packaging was like this permanently it would justify the price tag. I mean $38 is a little expensive but the fact you’re getting a pencil, gel and brush makes the price a little worth it.
I do really like Kylie’s glosses, the formula is nice and pigmented and not that sticky gloss feeling, this wouldn’t be my usual shade of gloss but luckily this is more of a gloss topper, it’s not pigmented enough in my opinion to be worn on its own. But this will look really pretty over your favourite lipstick or liquid lipstick. I couldn’t get a decent swatch of this as it wasn’t showing up on my pale skin.
Lord metallic lipstick
I know these are so popular and I had wanted to try Kylie’s out for ages even with all the mixed reviews on hers. So if you don’t know people received empty tubes and dried up product, and customer service was telling customers that it was normal, Urmm ok then! but anyway this shade just isn’t me. I can’t get on with metallic lips I feel so silly when I wear them, I see some girls wear them and look absolutely amazing but I just don’t feel confident wearing them. I might sell this or keep this as a topper but I haven’t decided yet, that’s why I haven’t swatched it, but it’s a true metallic gold.
The makeup bag
Like I said above no way is this makeup bag worth it, I mean come on nearly $50 for a makeup bag surely you could get a designer one for that. It’s really nothing amazing, it’s a good size not to big or small, good for traveling. Can be wiped and I Would say waterproof on the outside and it has a compartment inside but apart from that there’s not much to say. I definitely wouldn’t have purchased this separately.
So overall do I regret buying this, I’m not really sure lol I kind of got carried away in the moment, half of this I don’t think is worth it and should have just stuck to the original products I was going to buy which was the mini mattes and creme shadows but then I’m not sure if I even would have been able to get them as they sold out so quick, but then on the other hand I am a makeup junkie and love collecting limited edition makeup and this is kind of special as it’s gold. I think I will end up selling a couple of bits I know I won’t use, and that way I can make some money back.
Let me know what you think of this birthday collection? Was you lucky enough to grab anything? 🙂
