I have been talking about these on snapchat a lot, and have been wearing them a lot to test them out and give you my honest review.
I was so excited for These Huda beauty matte liquid lipsticks to launch in the UK on cult beauty, I love my liquid lipsticks and I follow Huda on snapchat and she was raving about her formula and colours so I couldn’t wait to pick some of these up.
I decided to go for venus and trendsetter as I love my brown toned nudes, she launched a lot of shades in all different colours so I’m sure there is a colour for everyone. They’re priced at £18 on cult beauty.
Huda claimed these were different to any other formula and were very moisturising and comfortable on the lips. I think a lot of brands claim this so I was interested to see if this was true, but I did want to see how these compared to Kylie’s as a few people said they’re similar.
Read on for my review, swatches and some dupes!!
I love the packaging I think it’s so different and cool, I love the idea of the lips on the packaging. It really stands out from other brands. So I think Huda has succeeded in that aspect. The bottle is frosted plastic and the wand applicator is actually really nice, it’s a typical applicator that you see on most liquid lipsticks but it makes it easy to apply.
The formula is definitely different to any others I own, I kind of love and hate it at the same time, It has a very strong scent, almost like coconuts or cocoa butter, it was a little strong when I swatched these on my hand but on the lips it’s not as noticeable luckily as it was a little overpowering. But the actual formula is very nice, it’s thin and you can definitely tell its moisturising, it doesn’t even feel matte when it’s on the lips. The only issue I have is the fact it doesn’t dry down completely matte, it stays slightly tacky which I don’t like as it transfers like crazy. I ate a burger when I was out and after it was all round my lips and on my chin which wasn’t a good look. This is where I have mixed feeling about it as I love the fact is comfortable on the lips and doest look dry or settle into fine lines but I’m not overly keen on the wear and staying power because of how it stays tacky and transfers.
So if you don’t mind re applying and touching up then you might really like these, I don’t think in my opinion these should be classed a matte liquid lipstick, they almost remind me of the NYX suede lipsticks as those stay slightly tacky as well.
So she released 16 shades ranging from nudes, pink, browns and reds so literally a shade for everyone. I picked up venus which is classed as a deep taupe brown, and trendsetter a stylish brown nude. These two shades look identical to me with a slight difference in tone but not a huge difference so I probably should have just got one rather them both but it was very hard finding accurate swatches of these as they looked completely different in each swatch I saw. I would definitely say trendsetter is slightly more brown toned on me and darker.
when I was trying to swatch these on the skin they were coming across so patchy and streaky which I was surprised about as they don’t look like that at all on the lips. As you can see from the lip swatchs they look very similar, Trendsetter is just slighty darker and more brown toned. Please excuse the bad swatch of trendsetter I didn’t use lip liner with these and I had a nightmare ha ha
If you follow me on snap when I got these I was doing comparison swatches with other lipsticks I own. I spent days doing swatches for this blog post but I wasn’t happy with how any of them came out. For some reason the Huda ones just looked so patchy on the skin and I didn’t think the swatches really did the lipstick justice.
So from all the ones I tested here are some dupes I think are similar in shade but not in formula, Huda’s formula is very unique.
- Dose of Color Truffle (pretty similar but truffle is slightly pinker)
- Jeffree star celebrity skin (this is basically the same as venus)
- Kylie maliboo (Maliboo is slightly more cool/brown toned)
- Kyle dolce k (basically the exact same brown toned nude)
- NYX sandstorm (slightly lighter but still in the brown tone range and doesn’t dry matte like huda’s)
- Kylie Maliboo (considering venus and trendsetter are so similar you could get away with maliboo being the same depending on what lip liner you wear with it)
- Colourpop beeper (also very similar )
(this is the picture I posted on snapchat when I was playing around with them all)
I am glad I got these, I do think for the price they’re very nice, like I said the packaging is great and the formula is very unique and comforatable on the lips but I don’t agree with what she claims about long staying power and transfer proof, but that’s just my opinion others might disagree but from the videos I have seen on youtube a lot have mentioned about the tacky feeling and the fact they don’t dry down matte. I can agree with the special formula infused With hydrating ingredients, the formula is definitely lightweight and build able unlike others. I think for people who hate wearing liquid lipsticks because of how drying they are then you would absolutely love these, and if you don’t mind re applying throughout the day. I think my favourite is trendsetter it’s more of the brown toned shade I love, I think these wear better without a lip liner underneath, I don’t own any Huda lip contour pencils so I can’t comment if they go together. I did try them with my Kylie liners and I felt like these wore better without a liner, But everyone is different.
If you are unsure I would definitely purchase one to try first, I couldn’t resist not trying these as I am a massive lipstick junkie.
Have you got any of the Huda matte lipsticks? let me know what you think.
Thanks for reading xo
