Jeffree Star Cosmetics & Manny MUA collab review

I apologise in advanced if you aren’t a fan of JSC, I know a lot of people aren’t a fan of his brand so this might not be a post you will like but I couldn’t resist picking up a couple of products from this collection, I do love my liquid lipsticks and highlighters!!

BeautyBay were stocking this collection luckily, and I managed to get on and order before the site went down for over 20 mins! I’m so glad as I heard it was a bit of a nightmare! I only wanted the eclipse highlighter and lipstick in Daddy!

If you watch or follow Jeffree star and Manny you know exactly who they are and what this collab is about, I know Manny and Jeffree aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but I do think they are hilarious and I watch them a lot on youtube. I can never resist a limited edition collection, especially with pretty packaging.

Daddy is a cool toned brown and I do love my brown toned lipsticks

Eclipse is classed as an icy peach, I dont think its peach its more of an icy champagne shade, its gorgeous and I dont own anything like it, which is why Ibgave in and got it, Im trying to buy different highlighter shades at the moment.

Eclipse is HUGE! the size is amazing for the price of £25.5o, I’ve spent £30+ on smaller highlighters, This is actually my first JSC skin frost so I was excited to try it, as I have heard they are really nice.

Now you know I’m always brutally honest and if you have seen my instagram stories you will know how I feel about this. I absolutely love the shade, its gorgeous and so unusual, its perfect for my fair skin, but as soon as I swatched it, my first thought was how rough it felt, definitely not what I’m used to, a lot of my highlighters have a smooth buttery texture. I was really rubbing my finger around trying to pick up lots of product, I know you can’t always go by finger swatches (take the kylighters for example) so I couldn’t wait to try it on my face, here’s my next issue, none of my favourite highlighter brushes were picking up any product, it seemed to be picking up more glitter than anything else, huge disappointment, definitely not the pigmented and smooth highlighter I had heard about from people who have these skin frosts, so then I thought what if I’ve got a faulty one or something, but after sharing my thoughts on instagram I had a lot of girls messaging me saying this is actually standard of the JSC skin frosts, and that you have to use the right brush to apply it! which is a huge bummer, I have never had any issues with my other highlighters and having to use a particular brush. the ABH highlighter brush was recommend and the zoeva one. which I’ve had my eye on anyway so maybe I will pick them up.

If you have dry skin or suffer with texture you definitely wont like these at all. I dont normally have any issue with highlighters showing texture on my skin but this one did! I felt really self conscious to be honest, I have to really be gentle when applying this other wise it can look at bit glittery and full on! I hate glitter highlighters, so I am a bit gutted this isn’t more soft and metallic looking.

I also noticed the highlighter really clung to my fingers when I went to wipe it on the back of my hand to do a hand swatch, it was really bizarre it was just clumpy and stuck on my finger. I am a little bit gutted as I love the colour so much, but the formula and texture of this is just not for me. But I am definitely not going to give up on it as I do love the shade, Im going to try out lots of different brushes and see what works best with it.

Next up we have the liquid lipstick in daddy, this I love and dont actually have anything bad to say, I feel like JSC has really improved the formula of these, I only have 2 other shades of the velour liquid lipsticks and my celebrity skin had a really funky smell and it kind of put me off using it, but daddy has no smell and it’s so pigmented and also thin in consistency, so it really feels like you have nothing on the lips.

I was worried the shade would be straight up brown on me and it isn’t, its like a dark brown cool toned nude on me.

I’ve been loving this shade lately, and I’ve been wearing it with the jouer rose gold lip topper.

Overall I am glad I got the bits I did as I do really love the shade of eclipse and will get lots of wear out of the daddy lipstick, the other shade Im shook wasnt really my type of shade, it was a coral toned red so I passed on that. Maybe when I’ve played with the highlighter more I might learn to love it, I think it’s because I’m so used to a type of formula and this is nothing like any highlighter I’ve tried. I Love the limited edition packaging too, the sleek matte black with hologram logo is so much better than the standard pink packaging (sorry Jeffree).

Did you pick up any thing from the JSC & Manny collection? Let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading xo

I love his products, just not him so I stopped looking at his stuff. I am actually surprised this collection is so muted and ‘normal’.

Such a shame about the highlighter, especially as this looks like a perfect gold for pale cool toned skin. I hate glittery highlighters too, they make my skin look like the surface of the moon

I’ve never been that wowed by the skin frosts, but the JSC lipsticks always look incredible! I wish he was a more likeable person, as this makes me not want to buy from his collections. A real shame really, especially since Daddy in this collection looks right up my street.

I’m not a fan of J* which is a shame because I love the looks of some of his products and they’re supposed to be amazing! It’s a shame about the skin frost – I hope you find the right brush for it! That’s a bit frustrating! Daddy looks beautiful though and really suits you!
